Building a Strong Town

For over 20 years, Gil Penalosa of 8 80 Cities has been helping cities around the world to become more livable, people-friendly places. He is very passionate about what he does and he now offers bi-weekly webinars with a variety of interesting guests. This week, Gil’s guest was Charles (Chuck) Marohn of StrongTowns. Chuck has been looking into why and how cities in North America are bankrupting themselves due to the way our cities have grown. As the founder of the rapidly growing StrongTowns organization, he’s been educating people and spreading his understanding and knowledge about how to make our cities more financially resilient and healthy, which has tremendous co-benefits to its residents.

 

The StrongTowns principles are are also starting to be spread by local StrongTowns groups, such as in Langley, Delta, and Nanaimo.

 

For us in Maple Ridge, this is a timely webinar, since our City Council is presently finalizing this year’s budget and the 5-year Financial Plan.
